Challenges

The primary challenge faced during this project was a large bulkhead intruding into the room. This bulkhead provided additional storage for an adjacent study but limited the planning height of one section of the kitchen.

To overcome this, custom height ‘midi’ units were designed, cleverly utilising the space to house the ovens. Adjacent to this was a simple but effective ‘niche’ for storing small appliances.

Design Solutions

1. Vienna Door Style

The Vienna door, with its simple bevelled shaker style, was chosen for its aesthetic appeal and ease of maintenance. The satin lacquer finish in Seashell White Satin contributed to the desired light and bright feel of the kitchen.

2. Quartz Worktops

To complement the satin doors, Eternal Calacatta Gold quartz worktops were installed. This choice ensured durability and added a touch of luxury. The full-height quartz splashback, upstands, simple drainer grooves, and an undermounted sink were selected to maintain the clean, bright look while ensuring easy maintenance.

3. Innovative Appliance Solutions

The Neff vented hob was chosen over traditional hoods to provide superior extraction, reducing grease build-up and freeing up additional storage space above the hob. This design allowed for a clutter-free and functional kitchen environment.

4. Maximising Storage Efficiency

To address the client’s need for ample and convenient storage, several innovative solutions were incorporated:

• Plenty of pan drawers were installed for easy access to cookware.
• A Le-mans corner solution maximised corner storage, ensuring no space was wasted.
• Custom ‘midi’ units provided additional storage space despite the constraints posed by the bulkhead.

Conclusion

The finished results transformed the client’s kitchen into a bright, functional, and low-maintenance space that met all their retirement needs. By addressing the spatial challenges creatively and incorporating high-quality materials and appliances, the project delivered a long-term investment that the client can enjoy for years to come.
